YETKİM (Turkish Identity Federation) is an identity federation established for higher education and research institutions connected to **ULAKNET**, Turkey's National Academic Network. Managed by TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM, YETKİM is also a member of **eduGAIN**. eduGAIN is a global service operated by the European Academic network GEANT. Through the participation of federations operated by numerous different countries' education and research networks, thousands of identity providers and service providers are gathered under one roof.
Identity federations provide services such as authentication and authorization for web-based resources, simplifying and securing cross-institutional access to these resources. This method prevents users from having to create separate usernames and passwords for each system, allowing them to access all resources within the system using their own institutional infrastructure. It enables users to access various services in a single step without the need for Proxy settings. YETKİM-eduGAIN offers access to important academic publication archives worldwide, hosting many crucial services.

YETKİM provides an authentication and authorization infrastructure for web-based resources using the **Single Sign-On (SSO)** method. This infrastructure allows institutions to access their web-based resources simply and securely. SSO is an authentication and authorization method that provides access to all services with a single user account. This both simplifies access for users with a single set of credentials and reduces the manpower needed for system administration. Thus, users are granted access to different services like email, library, and student systems with a single session login.
In the Identity Federation infrastructure, individuals have a single set of credentials stored and secured by their own institution. Once logged in with these credentials, the user is not prompted again for credentials until they log out or close the web browser used for service access. Since the authentication process is performed by the individuals' own institutions, service providers and identity providers share metadata related to their services mutually.
Users will be able to access databases by connecting to the web pages of the desired database, following links like "Institutional Sign In", "Access through your institution", "Institutional Login", or "Sign in to Continue Reading". On the subsequent screen, they should select **Tarsus Üniversitesi**, and then enter the username and password they use for our university's **ekampüs** system on the opening page.
